With Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics finally lifting the veil from their Marvel’s Avengers game during E3 2019, Gamescom and now PAX West, we finally know what the microtransactions for the game will entail.
During PAX West, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix revealed that, although Marvel’s Avengers will be supported with free content after launch, there will be some in-game purchases included. Of course, this has become a term that many gamers dread hearing and who can blame them as the gaming industry has of late been seen introducing more and more of these in-game purchases into premium titles.
Crystal Dynamics has, however, confirmed that these in-game purchases will consist of cosmetics only and won’t be pay-to-win. While this means that you won’t be forced to fork out more cash on a game you already paid full price for, we do expect some of the coolest Avengers costumes to be locked behind some kind of paywall.
Crystal Dynamics did confirm that Hulk’s Mr Fixit suit, Black Widow’s original costume, Cap’s scaled secret empire costume and Thor’s Lord of Asgard outfit, among others, will form part of the game’s microtransactions.
Players will be able to earn some of these costumes in-game while others will need to be bought in the game’s marketplace.
We fully understand that microtransactions have become a way of allowing developers to be able to continually release free updates and content but we just hope that not all the best outfits and costumes end up being locked behind microtransactions.
Marvel’s Avengers will be releasing on the 15th of May 2020 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
