Imagine Will Smith’s Fresh Prince of Bel-Air as a dark and gritty movie that was less comedy and more real life. Well, you don’t have to imagine because director Morgan Cooper has put together an awesome concept video showcasing just that.
Cooper’s Bel-Air takes the iconic ’90s TV show and modernises it for today’s audience. And it looks good. Surprisingly, it works on many levels. In fact, fans are begging Netflix to pick it up as a movie, or possibly even a TV show.
Bel-Air does a great job of suggesting Will’s fish-out-of-water status when he arrives on the doorstep of his rich uncle Phil’s California mansion. It has all the beats we’re familiar with from the ’90s show but shown in a very different way, with Calton’s dance even seeming less quirky.
The original series was well known for showcasing music and fashion, so if this were made it could easily feature clothing of new upcoming designers and musicians working in the industry today.
It just makes good sense. Watch the trailer below.
