After months and months of speculation and waiting, Sony has finally lifted the veil on their next-gen console, the PlayStation 5 (PS5), and revealed the price and a release date.
The showcase not only revealed the price we would pay to have a PlayStation 5 (PS5) in our living room but also featured some great-looking new games.
PS5 price and release date
Many suspected that Sony would be forced to lower their next-gen console pricing after Microsoft revealed the cost of the Xbox Series X and S last week.
The good news is that the console will arrive at a competitive price point. The PlayStation 5 will retail at $499, with the no-disc digital version going for $399.
Sony also revealed that the PS5 will be available on the 13th of November in certain countries, and the 19th everywhere else. Pre-orders are already live at specific retailers.
In South Africa, the standard PS5 (which includes a 4K Blu-ray player) is priced at R11,999, while the digital edition has a price of R9,999.

I mean it isn’t a bargain… But it can sort of be expected. I’m hoping it lives up to the hype and promises and makes a tangible upgrade over the PS4. I’m also hoping they have a black version to surprise us with soon. I don’t see this fitting into my living room very well. Still keen to buy one as soon as stock availability and finances allow!
