Talk show host Oprah Winfrey is covered in makeup and dressed in stunning garments in the first two-minute trailer for Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle In Time which debuted during Disney’s D23 expo on Sunday. Brace yourself: there are a lot of wigs.
The epic fantasy trailer opens with a voice-over from Pine’s scientist character, who has discovered a wrinkle in time. It then shows Storm Reid as a smart and fierce young Meg, the girl who must venture into otherworldly realms to save her father. Oprah Winfrey plays Mrs Which, her supernatural guide, who tells the young girl to be a warrior.
DuVernay calls the film “a family story wrapped in an epic adventure.” It certainly looks amazing, although half the budget seems to have gone to strange wigs for the characters.
The film, which is an epic adventure based on Madeleine L’Engle’s timeless classic which takes audiences across dimensions of time and space, examining the nature of darkness versus light and ultimately, the triumph of love.
Directed by Ava DuVernay from a screenplay by Jennifer Lee based on the beloved novel by Madeleine L’Engle, A Wrinkle in Time stars Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Peňa, Levi Miller, Deric McCabe, André Holland, Rowan Blanchard, Zach Galifianakis, Chris Pine and Storm Reid.
A Wrinkle In Time debuts March 9.
