Game of Thrones Season 8 has divided fans. With the petition to recreate the final season without David Benioff and D.B. Weiss reaching 1.5 million signatures, it’s becoming harder to defend the finale. Now, a Redditor has posted a link to his friend’s rewrite of the show, and fans are loving it.

With 11.8K upvotes and over 300 comments, Alice Shipwise’s version of Game of Thrones Season 8 seems to have captured the hearts of fans of the show. From what we’ve read so far, it takes its time to set up a lot of the plots that felt rushed in the final season, spreading it out over more episodes.
As a writing exercise, I have also written scripts for a complete, independently-envisioned Season 8 for HBO’s Game of Thrones. I started this project shortly after Season 7 wrapped, out of love and enthusiasm for the show,” posted Shipp on her website. “The tenth episode is currently in progress, out of eleven total. The scripts have a modest but enthusiastic following on r/shipwisescripts and Archive of Our Own.”
Fan-fiction seems to be the only way some fans will actually get the ending they were hoping for. Many are disappointed that the prophecies and lore surrounding the show never made it into the last few episodes.

When George R.R Martin was questioned about the show’s ending, and whether or not the books will be the same, he answered:
“How will it all end? I hear people asking. The same ending as the show? Different? Well…yes. And no. And yes. And no. And yes. And no. And yes.”
In other words, it’s a maybe.
That said, in light of the reaction to the final season, it would be foolish for Martin to continue writing the saga with exactly the same outcomes. The series finale got a brutal 4.8 IMDb score and 20% of HBO Now subscribers are threatening to cancel their subscription. On Rotten Tomatoes, the episode holds a score of 57% rating. That’s a considerable drop from the season premiere, which scored a 92% approval rating.
