Nintendo has officially announced the Switch Lite, a smaller unit with integrated controls that won’t be able to connect to your TV set. Of course, this means that the unit will hopefully be a lot cheaper than it’s big brother, The Switch.
Nintendo hopes that the focus on handheld and, of course the cheaper price, will attract a whole new group of gamers to their console. As an even bigger incentive to get the new Switch, Nintendo has also announced that, along with the three colours that will be available at launch, they’ll also be releasing a limited edition Switch Lite Zacian & Zamazenta Edition console, which will only be available as long as supplies last. The limited-edition console will feature illustrations of the two new Legendary Pokémon from the upcoming Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield games, as well as funky magenta and cyan buttons.
The Lite is set to release on the 20th of September, with the limited edition console to release later on the 8th of November. Local pricing is yet to be announced, but we do know that the console will set you back around $199.99 in the U.S.
The best part of the new console is that all the games that work on The Switch will work on the Lite. There might be those who would be put off by the fact that you can’t connect the Lite to a TV set but, let’s be honest, how many Switch owners actually play in docked mode?
I must say that I absolutely love the new D-pad on the Lite as the one on the Switch Joycons just doesn’t always feel good.
What do you think of the new Switch Lite? Will you be getting one?
