Fans of the Pokémon have been patiently waiting for more news on the next entry in the franchise, Pokémon Sword and Shield, and, thanks to the latest Nintendo Direct, they were treated to new gameplay and news about when the next entry in the franchise will release.
The Nintendo Direct sees Pokémon Sword and Shield developer Game Freak sharing more details about the highly anticipated next instalment.
Among the slew of news was that the game will feature Max Raids, basically a new battle type which is similar to the raids in Pokémon GO. Players will team up in a group of three and battle Pokémon which are permanently in Dynamax form. This form increases the Pokémon’s power turning their moves into Max Moves. Players will have to work together to defeat these powerful wild Pokémon.
Game Freak also revealed the two new legendary Pokémon featured on the two versions of the game’s box art called Zamazenta and Zacian. While Pokémon Sword and Shield will see some familiar Pokémon making a return, it will also introduce the eight generation of Pokémon, which include Wooloo, a sheep Pokémon, the flower Pokémon Gossifleur and it’s evolution Eldegoss, Drednaw a bite Pokémon and Corviknight a large crow-like Pokémon. Of course, there are also three brand new starter Pokémon, Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobble.
The new game will also take place in a brand new region named Galar and will feature brand new characters to interact with as well. Galar is a region made up of picturesque countrysides similar to what one might find in the UK.
The most exciting news from the Nintendo Direct though was the announcement of a release date. Pokémon Sword and Shield will release exclusively on the Nintendo Switch on the 15th of November 2019. In the meantime, watch the trailer below.
