Jimmy Kimmel Live! revealed the new Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 trailer and, as expected, it’s full of humour and 70s music.
The entire gang is back: Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), and Baby Groot (Vin Diesel), along with new members of the team Yondu (Michael Rooker), Nebula (Karen Gillan), and Mantis (Pom Klementieff). They’re also joined by a bearded Kurt Russel, who (as the trailer reveals) plays Star Lord’s father in Vol. 2.
While the first trailer, released back in October, seemed to focus on the cuteness of Baby Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), this one seems to focus on the team as a whole. We get more Rocket moments, more Star-Lord and more Drax. Sticking to the franchise’s guns, director James Gunn returns to blend action and comedy in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
The trailer’s biggest reveal comes at the tail end when Peter Quill meets Kurt Russell’s character and reveals himself to be Star-Lord’s dad.
Set to the all-new sonic backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theatres on May 5.
