A few days ago we featured the list of new emojis that would be releasing with the latest OS and firmware updates in December, which included iOS, Android and Windows. Even before that became old news, the Unicode Consortium has released the potential list for Unicode 10.0.
While previous emoji news and updates featured some straight-forward, long-overdue, and trivial list of new additions, things are starting to become a whole lot more convoluted with the Unicode 10.0. The list includes a T-Rex (nice), an exploding head (interesting), and a breastfeeding woman (strange). I wouldn’t necessary disagree with the list, as the Unicode Consortium seems to be coming under pressure from all corners to be politically correct in their offering, but given that a few obvious ones, like face palm, have been missing for years, I find it hard to imagine why some of these are more important in the latest release. The list has not yet been officially signed off, and may still have a few exclusions or additions before the official announcement.
