Netflix is releasing HDR content. The streaming giant announced that they are releasing and re-releasing content in a new brighter and colorful format, HDR, which will start with the re-release of Marvel’s Daredevil.
Netflix released the following promo video for their new High Dyamic Range format which adjusts the color to make it more pleasing to the eye: “What is High Dynamic Range? Get a glimpse behind-the-scenes and see how shows on Netflix like Marvel’s Daredevil are brought to life in the most stunning picture quality.” HDR enables the lightest pixels to go up to 40x brighter than standard displays.
Netflix will be making the full Marvel Catalog, starting with Marvel’s Daredevil, available to be viewed in HDR. We see examples of SDR v HDR using Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist.
While it’s definitely cool to see Netflix continuing its push to bring the best possible video quality to its customers, it’s important to note that for the vast majority of users, nothing will really change – unless you have a HDR TV.
Daredevil seasons 1 and 2, Jessica Jones season 1, and Luke Cage season 1 are now available on Netflix. Iron Fist will premiere on March 17, 2017. The Defenders and The Punisher will arrive in 2017. Premiere dates for the newest seasons of Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and Luke Cage have not yet been announced.
