We are no strangers to toy blasters in our household. In fact, I would go as far as saying that they have become an integral part of our toy arsenal. Whenever it comes to choosing a new toy, my son invariably gravitates towards the blasters. So, you can imagine the absolute excitement in our home when we received the Nerf Elite 2.0 Double Punch blaster.
It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say my son has a wide collection of toy blasters. However, since receiving the Nerf Elite 2.0 Double Punch blaster, it’s clear he seems happily convinced that this is the “coolest” one he owns. I immediately sensed his enthusiasm as he consistently displayed his collection, questioning me about which one I thought trumped the rest. Of course, the only correct response was always the Nerf Elite 2.0 Double Punch.
This toy isn’t merely about appearances, though they are notably impressive. Cloaked in bold shades of green, orange, and blue, it’s definitely one of the more stylish designs to come from NERF. Not to mention, the blaster intriguingly reveals its complex inner workings through a transparent midsection window, showcasing the flywheel cage and other cool mechanisms. But the clincher? This blaster is large and has quite the rate of fire, unlike any other we’ve seen.
Although it doesn’t claim to be the largest within the Nerf range, this semi-automatic flywheeler delivers an impressive size. Contrary to what one might think, the blaster is surprisingly lightweight and pretty easy to assemble. Its ergonomic design accommodates both small and larger hands comfortably, thanks to the addition of a pleasingly snug foregrip. As for the stock at the back, it may appear a tad short for adults, but it’s spot-on for the younger fans that the blaster primarily targets. However, let’s be clear – adults can use it without any significant qualms, too.
It should be noted that the Nerf Elite 2.0 Double Punch blaster cleverly incorporates dual-firing action, courtesy of its alternating front barrels that move quickly back and forth as you unload your darts. This blaster is definitely all about the double action, so you’re getting a great rate of fire. To make this feature even sweeter, the motorised functionality ensures that you are blasting darts at a faster rate. However, be aware that you’ll need 4x 1.5-volt AA alkaline batteries to activate this function, which, unfortunately, are not included in the package.
Speaking of packaging, the blaster comes encased in a box entirely devoid of plastic. The effort is clearly demonstrated in minimising plastic waste, from the solid paper ties that firmly hold the blaster in its place to the delicate tissue-like paper encasing the foam darts. It’s always great to see toys that not only provide fun but also take steps towards reducing plastic waste. The only area where this green practice is not implemented is in the sealing of the package, which is done with glue and tape.
Of course, we had to give this blaster a shot (excuse the pun) and see how it performed. From epic battles in the backyard to creating elaborate missions indoors, this toy blaster provided endless entertainment for our family. We even used one of our Ninja Turtle Plushy for target practice. Sorry, Michaelangelo.
We were impressed with the rate of fire and speed of the Double Punch blaster. However, accuracy wasn’t the blaster’s strong suit, especially at greater distances. As a result, Michelangelo escaped unscathed – well, mostly.
Utilising the Nerf Elite 2.0 Double Punch blaster proved to be a straightforward affair owing to its user-friendly trigger and ergonomically comfortable grip. The operation involves activating the flywheel through a swift pull of the rev trigger and holding on for approximately 3.5 seconds. While it does generate a bit of noise, it’s nothing too overwhelming.
The blaster boasts a binary trigger system, meaning one dart is ejected when the trigger is engaged, whilst the following dart is discharged upon the trigger’s release. This advancement simply adds to the thrill and ease of the game. You’re getting double the bullets in a matter of no time!
The Nerf Elite 2.0 Double Punch blaster offers two magazines, both of which can hold up to 10 darts. The loading process couldn’t be more straightforward; simply slot the magazines into your blaster and prepare to let loose a barrage of 20 darts before reloading is necessary. And, when it’s time to replenish your ammo, the user-friendly dual-paddle mag release mechanisms, strategically located just behind the magazine wells, make removing the exhausted magazines a breeze.
One thing you might notice quickly is the speed at which the foam darts discharge. This makes the generous inclusion of 50 darts with the blaster particularly beneficial. Each blaster magazine has the capacity to accommodate ten darts, meaning it can fire a total of 20 foam darts in succession. What’s more, the Double Punch boasts an additional storage feature. This is situated in the top rail of the blaster and can hold an extra ten darts, ensuring you’re always stocked and ready for action.
Of course, firing off numerous darts means a lot of ammo to pick up after shooting. However, the vivid combination of blue and orange hues of the darts makes them a cinch to spot amidst the green and brown hues of the fallen leaves outdoors. I prefer to keep blaster play as an outdoor activity to minimise potential damage indoors. That way, the family gets some outdoor time, and I don’t have to worry about my beautiful vases becoming casualties of a wild shootout.
It’s fair to say that the Double Punch blaster has not only met but surpassed our expectations. It swiftly became a favourite amongst our diverse array of testers – both young and old. We’re eagerly anticipating the school holidays for the epic Nerf battles, which are undoubtedly due.
So, the burning question is – would we purchase this blaster? The unequivocal answer is a resounding YES. If we hadn’t been the lucky recipients of the blaster for the purpose of this review, it certainly would have topped our Christmas list this year. In fact, we’re contemplating adding another to our toy armoury to ensure fair and evenly matched battles in the future.
This blaster isn’t merely a source of endless entertainment, either in the great outdoors or within the confines of the home. It’s also a gateway into the thrilling world of friendly rivalry and the development of key skills such as strategic thinking and hand-eye coordination, all while enjoying oneself. Plus, it’s just so beautiful to look at.
You’re bound to be thrilled by the Nerf Elite 2.0 Double Punch blaster. This joyous playmate is sure to be a hit among children aged eight years and older. Of course, those adults who still cherish their love for a spirited Nerf showdown shouldn’t be left out, either.
