With the release of BioWare’s next game Anthem just around the corner, EA and District 9 director Neil Blomkamp has joined forces to create a live-action short film based on the upcoming game.
The Anthem live-action short, titled Conviction, is more of a trailer than a complete story and takes place years before the events of the game.
It gives us a few glimpses not only of the game’s titular Javelins (mech suits) but also of Fort Tarsis, the last remaining human outpost in Anthem‘s world. It’s filled with a few action sequences as we see Javelins fighting Javelins as well as having the strange hostile alien race known as The Scar making an appearance.
The film ends by giving us a look at the game’s antagonist and leader of the Dominion (the bad guys), called The Monitor.
Blomkamp’s Oats Studio, which is behind the Conviction short-film, was created to specifically help create experimental short films.
As with Blomkamp’s previous short films, Conviction is shot beautifully and filled with stunning visuals and effects.
While Anthem might not be to everyone’s taste, there’s any denying that a full-length film based on the game would probably be awesome.
Whether the short film’s narrative forms part of the game’s story is yet to be seen. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see when Anthem releases on the 22nd of February 2019 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
