After receiving the boot from Marvel by Disney earlier this year, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is reportedly onboard to helm Suicide Squad 2.
The report has received a number of positive comments and even an endorsement from Suicide Squad’s David Ayer. “I think it’s an incredibly brave and smart move by the studio,” Ayer tweeted. “James is the right man for the job!”
A few actors have even shown their interest in starring in the film, including Gunn’s good friends, Dave Bautista and Michael Rosenbaum. The latter has expressed his interested in reprising his role as Lex Luthor, the character he played in the Smallville TV series. Fans from across the globe have expressed their interest in seeing the actor as Lex again.

Of course, DC fans know that Jesse Eisenberg is currently portraying the character in the DCEU. That said, his version of Lex, the son of the great Lex, wasn’t very well received. Perhaps there is room for another Lex if there are already two Jokers and possibly a new Batman moving forward.
It’s clear that Warner Bros. seems less concerned about the string of controversial tweets that resulted in the director being dropped from Guardians of the Galaxy 3. While there still remains no announcement regarding who will take over directing duties from Gunn in the franchise, rumours suggest that Disney will continue to use his completed script for the film.
Perhaps Suicide Squad 2 is shaping up to be something special after all.
