DC’s crazy week continues with Matt Reeves taking to Twitter to clarify his statements and do some damage control. It seems The Batman film will indeed take place within the DCEU.
Yesterday the press ran wild with news that Reeves’ The Batman was a standalone film and not within the same universe as the other DC films. After some speculation about what he meant, many doubted that Affleck would return as Batman in the film. Thankfully, Reeves stepped in to address the news:
Jeez, what'd I miss, guys…? 😀
Just to be clear: Of COURSE Batman will be part of the D.C. Universe. Batman will be BATMAN…

In his original statement, Reeves said, “I have a vision for a way to do something with that character that feels like it resonates with me personally, and a perspective that can grow out into other things. When they [Warner Bros.] approached me, what they said was, ‘Look, it’s a standalone, it’s not part of the extended universe.’”
It’s easy to see how things got misinterpreted. The press has been aggressively stating that Ben Affleck will not return as Batman following Snyder and Whedon’s Justice League film. While that might still be possible, it seems less likely with this news, especially if it’s not a film set during Bruce Wayne’s youth.
