With Nintendo testing the theme park waters it seems that EA has decided to follow suit, as it was announced that a new Mass Effect theme park ride would open next month in California.
According to Fortune, Mass Effect: New Earth 4D — which has been devised in consultation with Mass Effect developers BioWare — is set to open on May 18, 2016, in California’s Great America in Santa Clara.
The 4D experience will take place around the time of Mass effect 3 and will enable you to hang around the Normandy. The team working on the ride worked closely with Bioware and had weekly discussions regarding the animations, artwork and story.
Christian Dieckmann, corporate vice president of strategic growth at Cedar Fair Entertainment had the following to say ” It’s very important that we create an attraction that fits seamlessly in the world of Mass Effect while including the elements we know are critical to making a good amusement park experience. We want to ensure that dedicated fans and park-goers being introduced to the franchise alike walk away thrilled and excited.”
The ride is set up as a VR experience and will include a performer who will be playing the role of the captain of the ship, interacting on a stage with a holographic screen. The theater will seat 80 people and give you the illusion of being on a spaceship thanks to its motion seats with wind, water, leg pokers, and neck ticklers with 80-channel atmospheric surround sound arrays.
From its description the ride sounds like a lot of fun, hopefully, it will be as true to the source material as promised.
