Netflix released a batch of first look preview images (courtesy of Entertainment Weekly) for their upcoming event series Marvel’s The Defenders, including our first look at Sigourney Weaver as the villain.
The first few are from a photoshoot offering a close-up look at Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones).
“Every one of them is following their own trail of bread crumbs, trying to unpack a mystery in New York,” explains showrunner Marco Ramirez to EW.com. “We wanted them all caught off guard. Once they’re in that room together, it’s kind of like, ‘Oh, s—, who are you?’
“The Defenders didn’t have a ‘D’ on their belt buckles and a Defenders Tower,” Loeb says. “We agreed from the very beginning that these folks could at the very end go, ‘I never want to see your face again.’”
Marvel’s The Defenders follows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. A quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.
The biggest reveal is our first look at the mysterious villain being played by Alien legend, Sigourney Weaver. Named Alexandra, The Defenders showrunner Marco Ramirez says she has “no code name and no comic-book history”.
“Sigourney is the kind of person you can buy as the smartest person in the room, who you can also buy as a person holding a flamethrower. Her character is a very powerful force in New York City. She’s everything Sigourney is: sophisticated, intellectual, dangerous.”
