At San Diego Comic-Con 2019 this Saturday, Marvel Studios surprised fans with a reveal of its Phase 4 movie lineup, which includes a new version of Blade, starring True Detective‘s Mahershala Ali.
That’s correct, Mahershala Ali will replace Wesley Snipes as Blade, a half-vampire/half-human daywalker that seeks to rid the world of vampires.
Of course, Ali is no stranger to the Marvel universe. He originally played Cottonmouth in the Netflix Luke Cage series that was cancelled earlier this year.

At this point, there’s no other news beyond the announcement. Whether or not Blade will be a cinematic release or an exclusive to Disney+ is anyone’s guess. Either way, it’s exciting news.
Many fans were hoping for Snipes’ return to the character, with the actor expressing his interest in revisiting the role. However, Ali as been on the top of fan casting lists for a long time. It’s great to see that the relevant people listened.
