First, it was MacGyver. Then, it was Lethal Weapon. Hollywood is out to ruin every childhood memory you have with a long list of unwanted reboots. The latest is the announcement of a Magnum P.I. reboot starring Jay Hernandez as Tom Seleck’s Hawaiian-shirt -loving private investigator, Thomas Magnum.
As far as we know, the show will present Thomas Magnum as a decorated ex-Navy SEAL who returns from Afghanistan and becomes a private investigator. Unfortunately, there is no news on whether the character will sport Seleck’s very famous moustache. Of course, it’s easy to point out that Tom Selleck and Jay Hernandez look nothing alike – which hints that the show will take on a very new direction.
What the purpose is of creating a new show with a very different look and feel and then naming it Magnum P.I., you may ask? Well, your guess is as good as ours. It could turn out to be a lot of fun. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Peter Lenkov, the writer and producer behind current CBS reboots of Hawaii Five-O and MacGyver, will serve as the writer and executive producer on the new version of the show.
At least Hawaii five o was rebooted when it wasn’t so common place.
NO!
They’ll just screw it up like the rest of the reboots
No. Not unless Tom Selleck is the new “Higgins”.
Umnmm…no thanks. Not unless Tom Selleck is the new “Higgins”.
Just No
This has bad idea written all over it….
They have just to bring back the charming tropical smooth mood that made all of us fall inlove. No matter who is starring.
And please keep the timelessly stuff such as the classical Ferrari (or similar) , far away from the new digital era widgets….These two points were the soul of the show.
Don’t be so negative. I tend to agree with you about “, reboots” as you call them. I wasn’t enthusiastic about McGiver. No, the originals can never be duplicated of course. I imagine that producers look back to these populas classics for inspiration or something. I, for ine am really looking forward to “Magnum P I”. Of course it won’t be the same, but nothing ever is.
It’s obvious from all the comments about this re-boot everyone but the producers know that the original Magnum P.I. is a classic as well as the characters and dobermans. It has charm & charisma that will never be able to be recaptured. The challenge should be made to the Broadcadting station and producers out there to deliver to the audience innovating and new captivating shows to entice an increased viewing audience. Leave the classics like Magnum P.I alone.
