Sony has revealed a brand new game that uses the PS4’s PlayLink function. Erica is being developed by Flavourworks.
In the same vein as those interactive DVD games we use to play as kids, Erica is an interactive live-action drama. There is no 3D rendered graphics as the game makes use of live-action sequences. Being a live action cinematic drama, Erica follows the same formula as one would find in Telltale’s Walking Dead series or David Cage’s Heavy Rain. It basically boils down to players choosing one of the various options that are displayed onscreen and seeing what the consequences are.
Erica follows the young protagonist as she struggles to deal with a traumatic childhood experience which continues to haunt her. At the same time, a family friend informs her that her memories might hold the key to finding a killer and, as you can guess, the killer soon finds out about her.
Sony’s PlayLink feature allows the game to use touch screen devises as a controller, making the game even more immersive. Up until now, most live-action games have come across as mostly B-grade films, plagued by bad acting and terrible production values. It seems Erica might just be the game to change this.
