You’ve probably seen him in Atlanta, Get Out, Straight Outta Compton and Netflix’s Death Note, but Lakeith Stanfield is yet to become a household name. Perhaps the lead role of DC’s Joker in Martin Scorsese’s origin story film will skyrocket his career into the limelight. At least, that’s what the young actor is hoping.
Lakeith Stanfield recently took to Twitter to reach out to the film’s producer, Scorsese, and express his interest in playing The Clown Prince of Crime in the upcoming adaptation:
Scorsese I'd like to play the Joker

While the Joker origin film still remains a mystery, it’s very possible that DC will be recasting the role and setting Jared Leto’s version aside for the DCEU. While Stanfield has yet to prove himself in the industry, he has done a lot of good work that deserves some attention. Whether or not he is suitable for the role of the Joker remains to be seen. Furthermore, is the world ready for a black actor to play the Joker?
Stanfield has also clowned around as the Joker on Twitter a few times before. While I’m not sure if he should be judged by this performance, it does show some of his abilities:
