Let’s be honest, there’s no shortage of dinosaur toys in stores at the moment. Kids love the prehistoric creatures and they’ve invaded the market. Everywhere you look you’ll see a T-Rex, Velociraptor or a Triceratops in shapes, colours and sizes. And it all began with one franchise; Jurassic Park. With the release of the 6th film in the franchise (the 3rd in the sequel franchise), dinosaur fever has struck again. Jurassic World Dominion brings with it plenty of exciting new toys — but none as cool as Mattel‘s Jurassic World Thrash ‘N Devour Tyrannosaurus Rex (T-Rex) Figure.
At 21-inches (53 cm), it’s just the right size to tower over other toys. Plus, the T-Rex’s mouth opens wide enough to swallow them all in its mouth. Whether you’re looking for a display piece to show off your love for dinosaurs or simply looking for a fun toy for your young ones, the Jurassic World Thrash ‘N Devour Tyrannosaurus Rex Figure is a great buy.
For Kids

Upon opening the packaging, my 4-year-old’s response to seeing Mattel’s Jurassic World Thrash ‘N Devour Tyrannosaurus Rex Figure said it all: Wow. Not only does the size of the toy make it stand out but also its realistic features — which include a great paint job, articulation, interactive parts and sounds.
Press a button on the tail and the creature’s jaw opens to take a huge bite (chomp) or let out the classic roar. It’s menacing and cool. In fact, it can swallow the 3.75-inch human figures whole.
Move the tail up and down (or left and right) and the figure moves its head or its body to pick up its prey — and lets off appropriate sounds (roaring and thrashing noises) according to the movement. Manipulating the dinosaur sort of feels like playing with a puppet in a way. It’s really quite impressive. The movable joints add to its realism and allow you to recreate those awesome moments from the films.
But Mattel’s Jurassic World Thrash ‘N Devour Tyrannosaurus Rex (T-Rex) Figure isn’t just about play either. There’s an educational element to the toy too. On the T-Rex’s back, you’ll see a hidden clip that releases its DNA code. Scan it with your smart device and you’ll unlock an AR experience in the free Jurassic World Facts app. This allows young explorers and historians to learn everything there is to know about the beloved creatures.
The AR experience even lets you bring dinosaurs into our world — meaning that you can see the dinosaur interact with your home. That’s really cool.
For Adults
As much as I’d like to pretend that the figure is for kids only, that’s simply not true. I found myself playing with the Jurassic World Thrash ‘N Devour Tyrannosaurus Rex Figure more than I probably should. It’s a heck of a lot of fun swallowing and munching on smaller dinos and humans.
If you’re a fan of the films, as I am, the T-Rex is probably your favourite dinosaur in the franchise. And so it’s incredibly tempting to continuously press the roaring button and use Rexy to destroy everything in her way.
But if you’re simply looking for a display piece, this works too. With the amount of articulation offered on the Jurassic World Thrash ‘N Devour Tyrannosaurus Rex Figure — which includes movement on its legs, arms, head, body and tail — you can position the giant monster creature in any terrifying pose you wish.

Final Thoughts on the Jurassic World Thrash ‘N Devour Tyrannosaurus Rex Figure
Considering that the Jurassic World and Jurassic Park franchises are aimed at both older kids and adults, it makes sense that Mattel would create something that appeals to both young and old. They’ve done exactly that with this epic figure.
If you love dinos (or just recently saw Dominion at the cinema), this is a fun collectable to purchase. The Mattel T-Rex currently retails for around R1000 on Takealot.
