A few weeks ago, we featured our list of the best Game of Thrones Funko Pop! figurines, which included a number of characters throughout the first seven seasons. As we continue our series of Game of Thrones-inspired Funko Pop! figures, we take a closer look at two specifically chosen figures from the 100+ strong collection from the range, Jon Snow (Beyond the Wall) and the Night King.
While one character is the epitome of all that’s good in the series, the other is almost his complete opposite. There a quite a few dual and triple pack figures across the range and although these two figures are not part of an included pack, the duo seem to go well together when building your collection of Funko Pop! figurines.
Jon Snow is one of the lead characters from the Game of Thrones series, having gone through quite a unique story arc from unknown parentage to reach the heights where he finds himself in Season 8. The figurine chosen for review here is from Jon Snow’s time beyond the wall towards the end of Season 7, alongside a crew of men seeking to capture a White Walker and bring it back to King’s Landing.
The unit is listed as #61 Jon Snow (Beyond the Wall). It features the full attire of animal skin as the men brave the icy cold conditions travelling northwards. Jon is also equipped with a very detailed belt, which includes the sword sheath. The details continue from head to toe on this figurine, even including some scarring on his face. Comparing the unit side-by-side with the scenes from the series, the details are quite accurate. The scars across the eye are accurate for the scene, along with the facial hair, boots and belt. The only feature missing the same level of detail is the animal skin jacket, but Funko nonetheless does a really good job of translating it onto a plastic figure.
The Night King doesn’t have the same history or rich story arc as Jon Snow, but we know enough about him to understand that his intentions are quite evil in context. As the leader of the White Walkers, the Night King commands his army to march South after being in ‘hiding’ for a number of years prior, existing only in folklore and scary stories among a few people South of the wall.
Both the Jon Snow and The Night King figures measure 3.75″, the standard for the majority of figures in the Funko Pop! Range of collectables. Unlike the standard Funko figures, the Night King (#44) has bright blue eyes, with a darker lining of blue around the eyes as well. The figure has some of the horns and facial features of the Night King, but not the level of detail on the face with all the lines and the likes. Most of the details are derived from his outfit, however, which is sufficiently detailed. Unlike Jon Snow who has seen in numerous iconic outfits over the course of the series, the Night King has had only one. The detailing here is quite awesome, even down to the very noticeable pendant (said to be his sigil).
If you’re still wondering which figures you need to kickstart your Game of Thrones Funko Pop! Collection with, you can’t go wrong with the addition of these two. Despite a few small details, or lack thereof, they’re still pretty awesome and will bring delight to any fan of the series.
The majority of the Game of Thrones Funko Pop! figures retail for an RRP of R249 across various outlets across the country, with a handful of rare items being sold on the resale market.
