Developer Mike Bithell, who is behind some amazing indie games such as Thomas Was Alone and Volume, has announced that his studio’s next game will be based on the John Wick movie franchise. It will be titled John Wick Hex.
John Wick Hex has been described by Bithell as “fight choreographed chess” and, judging from the trailer for the game, it looks to be quite an accurate description.
The game sets out to capture the series signature action with Bithell and his team closely working with the minds behind the films. The game’s official description seems to indicate that players will be able to plan their moves ahead of time before executing them.
“Players must choose every action and attack they make while considering their immediate cost and consequences. Every move in John Wick Hex feels like a scene from the movies, and every fight contributes to your progress on the job and requires precise strategic thinking.”
Hex also has a very unique art style, described as being “graphic noir”, and will follow a separate narrative from the films.
It has also been announced that the voices of actors Ian McShane and Lance Reddick will be featured in the game, although it hasn’t been revealed whether Keanu Reeves will reprise his role as the titular protagonist.
No release date or specific platforms have been announced.
The next John Wick film is scheduled to release in theatres on the 17th of May.
