The CW sure is pulling out all the stops to ensure that their mega-event crossover series, Crisis On Infinite Earths, is everything fans hope for. Among all the incredible casting news, which includes Brandon Routh returning as Superman and Kevin Conroy playing Batman, they’ve also managed to convince Smallville actor Tom Welling to don the cape as Superman.
As you can see from the image above of Tom Welling’s Instagram post, which he posted while filming in South Africa, a fan commented: “I hope you’re in Crisis on Infinite Earths.” Of course, Welling cheekily responded with, “Duh!!!”
Welling is among a long list of rumoured guests on the crossover event. Other actors who might make an appearance are Smallville‘s Michael Rosenbaum (who played Lex Luthor), Lana Lang actress Kristin Kreuk, and Mark Hamill as Joker.
It will be great seeing Welling play Clark again. He last played the role in the series finale way back in 2011.
In 2018, Welling and Rosenbaum were asked about the possibility of Smallville returning on the DC streaming service, either for Season 11 or an animated project. “I mean, animated could be fun,” Tom Welling said in response.
“I said to Al [Gough, one of show’s creators], we should do an animated Smallville,” Rosenbaum added. “That would be huge! I mean, Smallville: The Animated Series, with all the real voices? And I wouldn’t have to shave my head! We’ve got to do that. Can you imagine us on mics doing the same dialogue?”
Now if we could only have Dean Cain return as Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman‘s Superman too. Heck, I’d even want to see Terence Stamp return as an aged General Zod.
