Huawei fitness bands and smartwatches have been available for some time now, entering the global market in 2015 and having designed some of the most beautiful smartwatches in the industry.
That said, these wearables haven’t been readily available in the South African market, and only in limited supply. This is all set to change, as Huawei made the announcement yesterday, 29 November, at an event at Switch Playground at Greenstone Mall, Johannesburg.
Huawei has now officially entered the South African market with their smart wearable technologies, having launched eight of the fitness devices into the country.
Akhram Mohamed, Chief Technology Officer at Huawei Consumer Business Group South Africa, made the following statement about the launch of their new product base on our shores:
“There has been a massive surge in popularity of smart wearable devices over the past few years. At the same time, Huawei has increasingly grown its share of the mobile phone market globally, so it made sense for us to expand into the wearables market, given that this is an area where we can provide an even wider range of premium fashion and technical products to support everyday users at affordable prices.”
In addition to this, South Africa is second, only to Jordan, as the highest projected growth opportunity for fitness devices and smart wearables across the globe, making this fertile ground to invest in.
The Huawei team believe that South Africans are ready to embrace additional options in the sector, wanting more features and technologies on their devices at affordable price points. The list of devices that are currently available, as well as soon to be released includes:
- Huawei Colour Band A2 – R799.00
- Huawei Band 3e – R499.00
- Huawei Band 2 Pro – R1,299.00
- Huawei Band 3 Pro – R1,899.00
- Huawei Talkband B5 – R3,499.00
- Huawei Watch GT Classic – R5,499.00
- Huawei Watch GT Sport – R4,999.00
- Huawei Watch2 – R5,499.00
- Huawei Smart Scale – R899.00
Many of these Huawei smart wearables are already available at Makro and Incredible Connection, with Takealot and Sportsmans Warehouse set for release in mid-December. The Watch GT Sport and Band 3 Pro will also only be available from Sportsmans Warehouse.
