Huawei has officially launched the new lineup of P20 smartphones in South Africa, which includes the P20, P20 Pro, and P20 Lite. At an event this evening at The Galleria, Johannesburg, Huawei showcased their latest smartphones to a media, network partners and retailers, ushering in a new era for the mobile camera with their partnership with Leica Camera, backed with the power of artificial intelligence.
The Huawei P20 and P20 Pro has focused on three main aspects in order to provide best performances and experience. These include the photography, AI computing, and an immersive experience. While the standout of these is the device’s great camera capabilities, all of the three focus areas are interwoven, with AI and UX playing a major part in delivering great performances and ease of use. The P20 Pro is fitted with the world’s first Leica triple camera, which has the highest total pixel count on a smartphone to date in the market. The three cameras are divided into a 40MP RGB sensor, 20MP monochrome sensor, and an 8MP telephoto lens. The results yield images with better lighting, greater zoom capabilities, as well as providing additional detailing in each shot. All this results in a 300% better camera detail compared to the industry standard 12MP sensors. The P20 Pro’s camera also features 3x optical zoom, 5x hybrid zoom, and “best-in-class” 10x digital zoom.
There’s no denying that Huawei has stepped out from the long shadows cast by the likes of Samsung and Apple, and have taken quite a significant chunk of the South African market, as well as globally. While the lineup of P20 devices will not be launched in the US, it is set to drop on our shores tomorrow, 6 April 2018, and will be available across the country at the various retailers and operators. The Huawei P20 Pro will be available in Black, Midnight Blue, and Purple Twilight, while the P20 will only be available in Black and Midnight Blue.
