October saw the global launch of Huawei‘s latest flagship smartphone, the Huawei Mate 10 Pro. Only a few weeks on and Huawei has officially launched the device on the shores of South Africa. In addition to the standard device, the company also launched the Porsche Design Huawei Mate 10.
When the device was unveiled last mon the h, South Africa was also flagged to receive the first wave of the device in the release schedule. When you consider the growing market share in the country, with Huawei in a comfortable second place on the heels of Samsung, it makes sense that it would feature in an early release cycle. The smartphone takes a few giant leaps towards integrating AI into our daily lives, combined with innovative hardware, the Kirin 970 chipset and an all-new, simplified EMUI 8.0 based on Android Oreo 8.0.
The AI capabilities provide enhancement to the overall user experience with a faster, more customised interface. These capabilities extend to the AI-powered battery management, which learns when and how owners utilise their phone in order to understand user behaviour and intelligently allocates resources to maximize the device’s battery life. The Mate 10 Pro includes a specialised NPU and Huawei’s HiAI mobile platform, which allows the Kirin 970 processor to deliver 25 times better performance and 50 times greater energy efficiency for AI-related tasks. The device, furthermore, offers the world’s first dual 4G SIM support and dual VoLTE connections.
Huawei has continued their partnership with premium manufacturer, Leica, to develop the Dual Lens camera with f/1.6 aperture (the world’s largest aperture), allowing users to take beautiful shallow depth-of-field pictures, crystal clear low-light photographs and blur-free shots of objects on the move. The dual lens camera consists of a 20MP monochrome sensor alongside a 12MP RGB sensor, which also includes intelligent photographic algorithms, to identify different types of scenes and objects – such as food, nightscapes, sunsets and beaches – automatically adjusting colour, contrast, brightness and exposure to produce vibrant and sharp photographs, all in real time.
The Huawei Mate 10 Pro will be available from R17,999, while the Porsche Design Mate 10 will set you back a cool R26,999.
