HBO is set to embark on a new space adventure with Avenue 5, starring Golden Globe winner Hugh Laurie (House), in a sci-fi comedy television series that feels a lot like a Star Trek meets The Love Boat hybrid. From Veep creator Armando Iannucci, the futuristic show is set roughly 40 years in the future where space tourism is possible.
British actor Laurie will play the Captain of Avenue 5, Ryan Clark. HBO describes the character as “charming and in-control.” From the trailer, we can see that Clark seems to know just how to handle high-profile passengers. He confidently strolls the decks of his galactic cruise ship and quickly easers everyone with lines like “Set your phasers to fun.”
But something belowdecks causes chaos onboard the luxury spaceship and, of course, things worsen for the crew.
Avenue 5 is a space tourism comedy set 40 years in the future when the solar system is everyone’s oyster.
The cast includes Hugh Laurie, Josh Gad, Zach Woods, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Rebecca Front, Lenora Crichlow, Suzy Nakamura, Ethan Phillips and Himesh Patel.
