Harry Potter: Could Warner Bros Be Working On A New Project?

Harry Potter is undoubtedly one of the most popular movie franchises in the world. Released between 2001 and 2011, the films are based on J.K. Rowling’s series of books which follow the lives of Harry Potter and his friends, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley.

The main story arc chronicles the trio’s adventures at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, with the main focus on Harry’s struggle against the evil Lord Voldemort – a dark wizard who intends to become immortal and overthrow the Ministry of Magic.

With seven books, eight movies and a successful Fantastic Beats prequel saga already completed, it seemed like Harry’s adventures had reached their natural conclusion. But if recent reports are anything to go by, we haven’t seen the last of our favourite wizard just yet.

Not long after HBO Max acquired the streaming rights for all eight Harry Potter films in May, two sets rumours started to surface.

A New Movie Series

According to unnamed sources, Warner Bros plans to start work on a new set of Harry Potter movies once the last film in the Fantastic Beasts series is released in 2021.

The new project will be a sequel to the first eight Harry Potter films and will pick up the story 20 years after the events of Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows. Most of the original cast will be returning for the project. And there are said to be some similarities with Harry Potter and The Cursed Child stage play, but it won’t be an exact adaptation.

Apparently, the studio would like to see Albus Severus Potter (Harry’s youngest son who debuts in the epilogue scene of Deathly Hallows) as the story’s new protagonist who works to stop Voldemort’s daughter from attempting to resurrect her evil father.

Series creator J.K. Rowling would write the script with David Yates taking on directing duties. Although Rowling didn’t contribute to the screenplays of the first eight films, she has penned all the Fantastic Beasts movies, while Yates has directed every instalment of the wizard’s adventures since The Order of the Phoenix.

A New HBO Max Television Series

Alternatively, Warner Bros may also be interested in producing a ten-episode television spin-off series that would premiere on HBO Max exclusively. The series is said to be an adaptation of the events from the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

In this story, Harry Potter is a dedicated employee at the Ministry of Magic, who juggles work with his duties as a husband and father. His youngest son, Albus Severus is very much like his father. And he finds himself burdened with the weight of a family inheritance that he never wanted any part of. But when destiny connects the past with the present, Harry and Albus must face a difficult truth together.

While there is no official statement about either project getting the green light from Warner Bros, fans are excited at the possibility of seeing Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint reprise their roles as Harry, Hermione and Ron once again.

Would you be interested in seeing more of Harry Potter on screen, or should the franchise be left alone?

OK firstly – the Fantastic Beasts film series is planned to be 5 films long. It’s not ending with Movie 3, which may or may not come out next year. The success of the series as a whole is yet to be seen.

Secondly, what is your source for these rumours that Warner Bros. is planning a movie or TV series about the Cursed Child? You cannot simply say “there are rumours that…” and then it’s an article.
