In brightest day, in blackest night, No evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil’s might. Beware my power! Green Lantern’s light! Yesterday Deadline announced that Warner Bros. is “moving aggressively” on the Green Lantern Corps movie which will be written by David S. Goyer and Justin Rhodes.
It was also reported that Goyer, who is known for helping pen the Christopher Nolan Dark Knight movies, will be producing and with DC heads Geoff Johns and Jon Berg exec producing. Green Lantern Corps is described as Lethal Weapon in space and is based on a comic book origin story. The focus will be on two characters: Hal Jordan and John Stewart. The latter is an African American Marine sniper before he joined the Lantern Corps and the story very much focuses on his relationship with Jordan.
The report also suggests that Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds, who played Hal Jordan back in 2011, could return as Green Lantern. However, Ryan Reynolds has stated in many interviews that he had no interest in returning to the role.
Following the news of the Green Lantern Corps movie, Geoff Johns (who served as a co-producer and creative consultant for the 2011 movie) took to Twitter to express his excitement. Johns was also responsible for the return of Hal Jordan in 2005 as the writer of the Green Lantern: Rebirth mini-series and subsequent Green Lantern ongoing title.
