As an earlier leak indicated, Blizzard did reveal a sequel to the highly popular hero shooter, simply titled Overwatch 2.
During the game’s announcement at Blizzcon 2019, Blizzard released a cinematic trailer for the game which gave us a glimpse of two new heroes who will be joining the roster, Echo the robot and Sojurn.
Judging by the trailer, the sequel will take place before the events of the original game.
Overwatch 2 will also release with a story mode (surprise!) which will see players participating in hero-missions and levelling up as they complete these.
Fans will be able to customise their hero’s abilities as they level up.
Along with the cinematic trailer, Blizzard also released a gameplay trailer which seems to indicate that heroes can now combine their ultimates, which sounds pretty awesome.
Each of the Overwatch heroes will also receive a bit of a visual overhaul.
As confirmed by Jeff Kaplan, one of the most important things about the announcement was that both the original and it’s sequel will exist in a shared multiplayer universe, meaning that all the maps, heroes and PvP games in Overwatch 2 will be playable in the original and all the progress you’ve made and skins you’ve unlocked will carry over to the sequel.
As the official Blizzcon post states, current players will be able to fight side-by-side with Overwatch 2 players in PvP.
There is no release date for Overwatch 2 yet but, judging from what was shown at Blizzcon, it would be safe to say that its release might be closer than we think.
