Despite having been leaked a full two days before the official launch, there was still great excitement when Google officially announced their latest smartphone range, Pixel.
Over the past few years, the Nexus has been the pinnacle of Google’s smartphone and OS achievements, but that all changed today. The release of Pixel and Pixel XL, which was developed in-house, is what Google hopes will redefine the Android platform. Google pitched the phone as the first to include Google Assistant “baked in” and focuses on, amongst other aspects, photos, storage, communications and VR. Speaking of VR, Google has also launched the Daydream VR headset, which will go on sale for just $79, as well as the Google Home (voice-controlled) speaker for $129.

The Pixel ($649) and Pixel XL ($869) is available for pre-order on the Play Store from today. Early suggestions are that the ordering process may offer some configurations and perhaps customisations.
