With season two of Stranger Things having been released on Netflix on Friday, 27th October 2017, Google also announced a tie-in game for their Google Home smart speaker via a trailer.
The nostalgic ’80s-styled sci-fi series is back and with a host of marketing tie-ins for your entertainment. For Google, the tie-in comes in the form of a partnership with Netflix for a smartphone game which allows you to communicate with Dustin as he’s in The Upside Down.
The game is available on Android and iOS, and allows users to play via their Google Home or Google Home Mini voice assistants. The smart speaker acts as a walkie-talkie and all you need to do is say the words: “Hey Google, talk to Dustin from Stranger Things” and you’re all set to go. You’ll receive a reply: “Hello? This is Dustin. I’ve found something…” in the characters voice.
The game takes you on a journey of back and forth conversation to find out what he has found and how you can help him figure out what’s happening in their town, Hawkins. The other characters join in at various stages throughout the game as you unlock them in your progress.
For now, the game is available in the UK, US and Australia, with expectations that it will be rolled out to various other countries in the near future. It is worth mentioning that the game may contain some spoilers as a tie-in, so perhaps you’re better served watching all of Stranger Things Season Two before continuing your adventure.
It follows Google’s increased support for streaming services such as HBO NOW, CBS All Access, and The CW, providing users with video control using voice commands.
