Ubisoft has officially announced the next game in the Ghost Recon franchise, called Ghost Recon Breakpoint.
Earlier today, a leak revealed Ghost Recon Breakpoint and a few details about the new game.
Breakpoint is set in the fictional Pacific archipelago called Auroa. It is home to Skell Technology, a company who specialises in drone technology.
Players take on the role of one of the titular Ghosts who is sent to investigate after communication with the company stops mysteriously.
Of course, you are not alone on the archipelago as players will encounter a group of soldiers, called the Wolves, who seem to be just as good on the battlefield as the Ghosts.
This, in essence, means that the player will become the hunted rather than the hunter, as we’ve been used to in previous games in the franchise.
As the recent leak previously indicated, the Wolves are being led by Cole D. Walker, voiced by actor Jon Bernthal. Walker is a rogue agent who previously appeared in Ubisoft’s Wildlands.
While the game will be four-player co-op, it is completely possible to play it solo, with the experience of those that go it alone being more akin to being a lone survivor and having to survive the dangers on your own.
There is also a crafting system which comes in handy considering that player characters now have different tiers of wounds which affect their gameplay experience. For instance, lower tiers of damage might see your character limping while higher tiers might make it impossible for your character to sprint and force them to only use a pistol.
Of course, using healing items takes away these wounds.
The game will also introduce classes, which you can swap between at any time by using the games new bivouacs – basically, camps that players can set up and where they can treat wounds or swap out gear. Naturally, each class will have their own class specific abilities.
There will be four playable at launch with more to be added in the future. What is quite interesting is that cutscenes will offer dialogue choices, although these will not affect how missions or the story unfolds.
Ubisoft will be revealing more information about the game in the near future. So expect some announcements at this years E3 and Gamescom.
Ghost Recon Breakpoint is set for release on the4th of October 2019 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
