After a lacklustre showing by Xbox during their Gamescom 2021 event, Geoff Keighley and the team came out swinging during the opening night. There were loads of new game announcements and trailers, making up for the previous day’s disappointments.
We take a look at some of the biggest announcements from Gamescom 2021.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns
Developed by the team behind the recent X-Com games, Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a tactical RPG set in the darker side of the Marvel universe. Expect to see such familiar faces, like Ghost Rider, Blade and Wolverine, when the game releases in March next year.
During Gamescom 2021, Microsoft announced a few new Halo Infinite inspired goodies. First up there was the Halo Infinite-themed Elite controller as well as a Halo-themed Xbox Series X. Both are said to be available in limited quantities.
The team at 343 Industries also released a new cinematic trailer for the game’s multiplayer mode. Best of all, the game’s December 8th release date was announced.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
After a long hiatus, we finally got to see more of the upcoming LEGO Star Wars game. The next instalment will feature the whole of the Skywalker Saga, which spans all nine of the main films.
Filled with action, building and comedy, the game is sure to please avid LEGO game fans.
Saint Row Reboot
After what seems like a lifetime, Gamescom 2021 revealed that the Saints Row franchise is making a return. This time the game is receiving a reboot.
Judging by the new trailer, the game promises the same over-the-top action fans of the series has become used to. It is set to release on the 25th of February 2022.
Death Stranding Director’s Cut
During Gamescom 2021, Hideo Kojima revealed more about the upcoming Death Stranding Director’s Cut.
The new trailer reveals more of what fans can expect of the game, including new ways to fight, deliver packages and even just relax.
Surprisingly, it looks even more beautiful than its original release.
Call of Duty: Vanguard
Sledgehammer studio officially gave us our first good look at the latest Call of Duty game, Call of Duty: Vanguard.
As expected, there is action, bullets and lots and lots of explosions. The game is set for release on the 5th of November.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The upcoming Retro brawler Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge will be adding another hero to its roster.
Besides the four green-skinned heroes, the game will also include April O’Neil as a playable character.
The new trailer showed April kicking some Footclan butt and having fun while doing it.
Cult of the Lamb
Cult of the Lamb is a very strange game featuring a sheep in charge of his own cult.
The gameplay places you in charge of a cult where you have to gain followers and eliminate false prophets. Its cute veneer seems to hide a very dark game, and we can’t wait to try it out.
Outlast is one of those scary games that stays with you long after the credits have rolled. The upcoming Outlast Trials is setting out to build on this legacy.
Players and their team (of up to four players) can now take on what the series throws at them together.
Far Cry 6
During Gamescom 2021, Ubisoft released a brand new story trailer for the upcoming Far Cry 6. The trailer focuses on the game’s big bad and reveals more about his motives. Of course, there is also a lot of action and explosions in between all the story beats.
Jurassic World Evolution 2
As expected, the latest trailer for Jurassic World Evolution 2 includes a bunch of dinosaurs. The Gamescom 2021 trailer also revealed that the game will be releasing on the 9th of November.
A game that places you in the shoes of a theme park developer, Park Beyond lets players create crazy, over-the-top rides. The game is set to release sometime next year.
Age of Empires IV
Microsoft released yet another gameplay trailer for the upcoming Age of Empires IV – this time featuring fewer Trebuchets than before. The trailer also showcased different types of units.
