As was the case in 2018, Samsung has taken the decision to announce their latest flagship Galaxy S smartphone in February. Last year’s release saw an announcement date of 25 February 2018. This year, Samsung plans to make the announcement and big reveal of the Galaxy S10 on 20 February 2019.
Generally speaking, there aren’t many new announcements when it comes to smartphones at the CES annual convention, but Samsung managed to pull a PR stunt by announcing the date while stealing the show in the process. Part of the latest Samsung Unpacked announcement, which included the date, also confirmed the venue, which takes place at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium located in San Francisco.
While smartphone sales have stagnated a tad in recent times, Samsung still leads the pack, closely followed by Huawei in the second position, despite pressure from North American governments to ban Huawei smartphones. Many other flagship Android smartphones tend to reveal or make big announcements at the MWC event in Barcelona each year. Samsung has, however, bucked this trend in 2018 and 2019, opting for an earlier, solo event.
