If there’s one thing that anime fans enjoy almost as much as the shows, it’s the collection of anime-inspired merchandise. T-shirts and posters are among the many popular items, but nothing beats adding another figure to my collection. Further to this, with a growing collection of Funko Pop! Figurines, it only makes sense to be on the lookout for pieces to join the collection. So, when you have the opportunity to get your hands on a special-edition figurine, it’s even more satisfying. With Gammatek announcing their range of Funko Pop! Special Edition figures for the event, the Naruto Shippuden #1465, stood out from the pack.

Having added figures from the past two iterations of Comic Con Africa, seeking out an opportunity to add another to the collection was a great opportunity. With last year’s Spider-Man #1059 front and centre of my Funko Pop! collection display, I was looking forward to the announcement of this year’s Special Edition Collection for Comic Con Africa 2023.
The curated collection sees a limited global release at similar events, including Comic Con San Diego. This makes each figure in the collection unique – not just in the title. Being part of the international community of Funko Pop! Special Edition Collectors has a nice ring to it.

The Naruto universe has been near and dear to anime fans for decades. Each character in its TV series, movies, games and even figurines is beloved by its fans. This figure is based on the Naruto Uzumaki character from the Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker video game. The game is a popular online multiplayer game which continues one of the stories from the many Naruto franchises. Players can select from many of their favourite characters and battle in groups of four against other teams online. With a very high rating amongst the community, it carved out a popular following after it was released around five years ago. While the online numbers may not be as significant today, there are still plenty of moments and lore to unpack from the game, making it relevant in the Naruto universe even today.

The Funko Pop! 1465 figure features Naruto Uzumaki in Kurama Link Mode. This sees him in his iconic flaming theme of an orange and yellow hue to illustrate his use of this power. It is translated excellently on the Funko figure to capture the same sense of power generated from the power-up. The inner portion of the figure has more yellow, with the extremities producing orange hues, much like the characteristics of a fire burning.
Naruto is also in the process of performing an attack, with his pose featuring a raised left arm and leg, with his right hand ready to deliver a blow, riding back off his right foot. All the elements of this movement are also evident, including the flow of the robe, capturing the moment in style. The robe also has some decorative holes to indicate the tattered nature during battle.

Other details on the figure feature red eyes, symbolically of the red pupils when Naruto is in this mode. The prominent three black stripes on his cheek and the symbol on his headband are also clearly visible. Lastly, the black detailing across the torso runs from the feet to the arms across the body.
