Playground Games are mostly known for the excellent Forza Horizon racing series and, while the series is undoubtedly one of the best racing series of games out there, the developer is planning to work on their first-ever non-racing title.
According to Gamesindustry.biz, the new game will be an AAA open-world action RPG. The developer, who just moved into their brand new studio near to their old one in Leamington Spa, has also recently started to expand their team.
Star Wars Battlefront II senior producer Sean Eyestone will be joining the team as the new production director on the new game. Stone also worked at Kojima Productions working on various Metal Gear Solid games before joining DICE. Along with Stone, former GTA V designer Will Kennedy and senior designer on Hellblade, Juan Fernandez di Simon, will be joining the developer and will form part of the team working on the new game.
While there is no doubt that Playground Games is a talented studio, it would be interesting to see how a studio known mostly for racing games will fair when taking on the challenge of an open-world RPG.
