Step aside Marvel’s Squirrel Girl. There’s another adorable Disney superhero squirrel movie coming.
“Holy unanticipated occurrences!”
Flora & Ulysses, based on the 2014 award-winning book written by Kate DiCamillo and illustrated by K.G. Campbell, is set to premiere exclusively on the streaming service on February 19th, 2021.
As the light-hearted trailer shows, Disney’s heartwarming squirrel superhero movie follows a 10-year-old girl named Flora (Matilda Lawler), an avid comic book fan, who discovers her pet squirrel, Ulysses (John Kassir), has superpowers — he understands humans, he is incredibly smart, and he is able to pull off incredible superhero poses.
What’s really cool about the family-friendly film is that Disney doesn’t hold back or skimp on the Marvel Comics references — Captain Marvel, Iron Man, Ms Marvel and Black Panther appear at the beginning of the trailer.
It’s also a big plus that the animation of the squirrel in the movie is very lifelike. But that’s expected when it comes to Disney and the quality of their productions.
The adaptation for Flora & Ulysses was written by Brad Copeland (Ferdinand, Spies in Disguise) and is directed by Lena Khan (The Tiger Hunter).
No tights. No cape. No problem.
