The Far Cry series has seen us visit all kinds of different locations, from Africa to the heart of the USA and even an over-the-top sci-fi universe. Now, the latest entry in the franchise, Far Cry: New Dawn, is taking us to their post-apocalyptic version of the USA.
Ubisoft announced their latest Far Cry game called Far Cry: New Dawn at The Game Awards.
The game takes place 17 years after the events of Far Cry 5 as players will be exploring what seems to be a nuclear wasteland. But unlike most settings, this version is lush and the environments dripping with bright colours.
A new threat has entered appeared after the devastation, a group called the Highwaymen lead by The Twins, Mickey and Lou, have started to descend on Hope County taking all available resources for themselves. It’s up to you, the player, to push back against these new foes and help the survivors. Along the way, you will gain access to the Homebase, the sanctuary and fortress of the survivors, which can be upgraded to unlock more powerful gear and weapons.
The good news is that the fangs for hire mechanic is back as players will be able to take Timber, a brand new dog, or Horatio, a giant wild boar, along as companions. Whether we will see more animal companions joining us hasn’t been confirmed yet. Hopefully, we’ll get a giant mutated bear to fight alongside us.
Players will be able to use all sorts of handcrafted weapons, such as a gas-powered crossbow that shoots saw blades, which, to be honest, is all we need to know. It seems players will not only be facing off against human foes but mutated ones as well.
Whether Far Cry: New Dawn is a spin-off, like Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, is not yet clear but we can’t wait to start exploring the wasteland when the game releases in February 2019 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
