Lionel Messi has been FIFA’s game cover star for four years in a row, but this year he has been given the boot in favour of four other options. Now gamers can vote for who they want to be the next FIFA cover star: Manchester United’s Anthony Martial, Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, or Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus.
They “represent exciting, attacking football and epitomize the innovative play that fans can expect in FIFA 17,” Electronic Arts producer Nick Channon said in the release. “We’re excited to see fans rally around their favorite players and see who they select as the cover star for the franchise, and the footballer who will represent FIFA 17 globally.”
“With this election year upon us, we don’t want you to lose sleep over another big decision,” EA said. “So, we decided to take the pressure off this year and hand-select someone for the job.”
Cast your vote on the FIFA Cover Vote website before 19 July to have your say. Fans can vote online each day and, in a nod to social media, they get additional votes by using the hashtag #FIFA17CoverReward or player-specific hashtags.
“The winner will be revealed on the official FIFA Cover Vote website later in July.”
FIFA 17 hits the pitch on 29 September for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
