With no news of a possible Obi-Wan Kenobi solo film, Scottish actor Ewan McGregor has signed on to walk on the dark side and play DC’s Birds of Prey villain and Gotham City crime lord, Roman Sionis aka Black Mask.
In the pages of DC Comics, Black Mask was born Roman Sionis, a character very similar to Bruce Wayne. The son of wealthy parents who owned cosmetic enterprise, he grows up to make very different decisions – killing his parents and taking over their company. After losing it all, he starts wearing a mask carved out of the ebony wood of his father’s coffin and becomes the city’s most ruthless crime lord.
Birds of Prey will be the character’s feature film debut, although he has appeared in animated feature films before.
Birds of Prey currently has a February 7, 2020 release date. It’s directed by Cathy Yan and stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, and Rosie Perez as Gotham City detective Renee Montoya.
