Samsung has announced that both the S7 and the S7 Edge will arrive in Europe and the US on March 11th, with pre-orders starting as early as February 23rd.
Samsung is not looking to rewrite the book with the launch of their new flagship mobile devices — they borrow liberally from the S6’s design (a beautiful specimen of cutting-edge tech) and feature set. Thankfully, the phone offers numerous refinements and improvements, and they restore features that went missing from the Galaxy S6 line (Important things, like a microSD card slot and water-resistance). Could this be the best smartphone Samsung has ever made?
Notable New Features
– Android 6.0 Marshmallow software
– 5.1-inch screen with 2,560×1,440-pixel resolution
– Either 32 or 64GB of storage, depending on the region
– MicroSD card slot for extra storage up to 200GB
– 12-megapixel camera (camera with an f-stop of F1.7, making night photography much better)
– Fish-eye and wide-angle lenses? Samsung has thrown that in as well.
– Water-resistant (IP68 rating) – you can submerge it in water for 30 minutes in 1.5m water.
– 3,000 mAh battery (versus 2,550 mAh on Galaxy S6)
– “Always-on” display shows time, calendar or images from the lock screen
– Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor
– Dedicated gaming feature makes it easier to record sessions and screenshots; a do-not-disturb mode blocks incoming notifications
– Colors: black onyx, gold platinum
Game launcher
The other big feature on show is the Game Launcher, a sandboxed area where you can store your latest gaming titles you’ve downloaded and get access to a suite of tools to improve the experience. While in game you can lock the buttons, disable alerts and even record footage of your gaming experience.
Samsung Mobile is defying barriers once again with premium Galaxy smartphones that redefine the ways we imagine our technology. The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge will make you rethink what a phone can do.
Design
Streamlined curves offer perfect grip and a slimmer feel without compromising a big immersive screen. It’s a powerhouse inside with expandable memory (SD-card slot), a Vulkan API for amazing gaming graphics, and a longer lasting battery. Take it in the rain, the shower, or the pool because it’s water resistant too.
Camera
Featuring a Dual Pixel 12MP phone camera with sub pixel technology found in professional cameras that activates just like your eyes for split-second autofocus. Shoot in the dark and own the night with larger pixels that capture more light for brighter photos.
Samsung Pay
Leave your wallet at home because Samsung Pay is now available virtually anywhere you can swipe or tap your card. It’s easy to use and secured by Knox Security.
Gear 360
Now you can truly break the boundaries of what a phone can do with the Gear 360 and Gear VR. Record your life with the 360 camera, preview it on the S7, and experience your memories like never before with the Gear VR headset.
