Not being content with Sony and the PlayStation 5 getting all the attention, Microsft held an Xbox Series X Showcase event meant to show off some of the games heading to Microsoft’s next-gen console.
It turns out Microsoft had quite a few things up their sleeves, including new entries in the Halo, State of Decay and Stalker series. Most surprisingly was the announcement of a brand new Fable game.
We take a look at just some of the announcements made and trailers released during the Xbox Series X Showcase.
Yes, Master Chief is back and looking better than ever. Not only does the games titular hero sport a brand new grappling hook, but the game’s worlds are also touted to be larger than those of the last two Halo games put together. Although most of the showcase was focused on the Xbox Series X, it is important to note that the game will be playable on the Xbox One.
The brand new game from developer Rare, Everwild, is a game set in a magical natural world. The trailer shows off more of the world’s gorgeous creatures and environments. The trailer also introduces us to the Eternals, who have a connection with the natural world and can feel its rhythm.
State of Decay 3
The third game in the State of Decay franchise, the series sees players having to survive a zombie apocalypse. The cinematic trailer takes place in a snowy environment, which could indicate that things will be a lot colder this time around for our protagonist.
The showcase also gave us another look at the upcoming game The Medium, and introduces us to the game’s dual reality mechanics. Protagonist Marianne is able to cross from the physical world to the spirit world.
It would also seem that she has different abilities, depending on which world she finds herself in. The game has a Silent Hill feel going for it, and we love it.
Looking like a cross between Skyrim and The Pillars of Eternity, Avowed is the brand new game from Obsidian studios. Taking a break from the sci-fi world of their recent game, The Outer Worlds, Avowed is a first-person game set in a fantasy world filled with spells and swords.
The much-anticipated sequel to Stalker, Stalker 2, will be heading to the Xbox Series X sometime next year. The game is a first-person shooter set around the Chernobyl nuclear plant. Expect the game to be just as immersive ad creepy as its predecessor.
A brand new game from the studio behind the Steamworld series of games, The Gunk is set in a strange exotic world filled with all kinds of interesting creatures, plants and enemies. As two space hauliers set out to explore an alien planet and gather useful resources, they soon discover that something strange has begun to take over the world.
The latest trailer for the highly-anticipated Psychonauts 2 game not only gives us another look at the game’s strange world but also features a song by Jack Black.
After a very long hiatus, Fable is back. The next instalment in the franchise will be developed by Forza Horizon developer Playground Games and will be a reboot of the series. It is touted as a fresh start for the beloved franchise and one we hope does its linage justice.
The Forza series is heading to Microsoft’s next-gen console. Forza Motorsport is still in early development but the new title will offer some big technical upgrades to the franchise’s visuals and performance. Expect more detail, more speed, and more fun.
