After rumours began flooding the internet weeks ago, EA has finally confirmed the news. During its EA Play Live Stream, the video game company revealed that it was working on the next game in the Skate franchise.
The announcement was made at the end of the live stream and, as you can expect, the internet is rife with ecstatic fans of the franchise.
Sadly, although EA did admit that the game was in development, they did not reveal any gameplay, only footage of a quick interview with the game’s creative director Chris Parry.
Strangely, the next game in the franchise will not be called Skate 4. Instead, it is just referred to as Skate.
It is also clear that the game is still very early in development, which means that fans should not expect any more news about it for quite some time.
Game director Deran Chung mentioned that the developing team has been waiting for a very long time to make the right game at the right time and that they were really glad to finally reveal the project.

The timing is interesting as there seems to be a new trend of reviving skateboarding franchises. It was also recently revealed that Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2 would receive remasters.
The third game in the franchise released over ten years ago. During the stream EA mentioned that this was a game “commented into existence” by fans.
