Disney has recently found success with live-action remakes/reboots. We’ve had The Jungle Book, Aladdin and The Lion King. Now, after multiple delays due to the pandemic, the live-action retelling of Mulan is finally here too.
Last week South Africa’s biggest cinema chains, Ster-Kinekor and Nu Metro, announced that they will be reopening on Friday, August 28th. Next week, 11 September 2020, Mulan joins the list of films available to watch on the big screen.
If you’re a fan of the original animated film, this is a must-see. The visuals are simply breathtaking!
In fact, just to achieve the extraordinary battle scenes, the filmmakers brought in specialised stunt teams from China, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, New Zealand and Australia. Fight scenes typically involved several lead actors and an army of 100 extras.
To save her ailing father from serving in the Imperial Army, a fearless young woman disguises herself as a man to battle northern invaders in China.
Based on the Chinese folklore tale, The Ballad of Mulan, Mulan is stars Liu Yifei in the title role. The film also features the acting talents of Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Gong Li and Jet Li.
Mulan is directed by Niki Caro from a script by Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Lauren Hynek, and Elizabeth Martin.
