Since news broke about Disney’s purchase of 21st Century Fox yesterday, the Internet has been running wild with rumours and theories. One of the biggest concerns, however, was whether Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool would remain an R-rated franchise. It didn’t take long for Disney CEO Bob Iger to respond.
Even though Disney is known for its wholesome family-friendly values, it seems the House of Mouse isn’t afraid of keeping the Merc With A Mouth as is. Disney CEO Bob Iger reassured fans and responded:
[Deadpool] clearly has been and will be Marvel branded. But we think there might be an opportunity for a Marvel-R brand for something like Deadpool. As long as we let the audiences know what’s coming, we think we can manage that fine.
That means Deadpool will still be able to get up to all sorts of R-rated shenanigans while under the Disney umbrella. Of course, Ryan Reynolds never misses an opportunity. He was quick to respond and poke fun at the merger:
