It’s probably not the biggest secret ever and most people would probably have guessed correctly, but now Suicide Squad director David Ayer has confirmed who killed Robin and knocked Joker’s teeth out.
While many people have been reporting that Harley Quinn was responsible for the death of Robin. The introductory sequence only revealed that she was an “accomplice to the murder of Robin”. Now, Ayer has gone on record to reveal the true murderer of Robin and how Joker lost his teeth.
“This is sort of my personal thing and maybe less about a larger connection,” David Ayer prefaces. “But Joker killed Robin and Batman basically smashes his teeth out and locks him up in Arkham Asylum. It’s in the asylum where Joker would have done the ‘damaged’ tattoo as a message to Batman saying, ‘You’ve damaged me. I was so beautiful before and now you’ve destroyed my face.’ That’s where the grill comes from.”
I must admit, these scenes would have made great flashback sequences in Suicide Squad or Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. They would not only add more clarity but also deliver some chilling onscreen moments. They’re hinted at heavily but never completely revealed.
Could Warner be saving the sequence for Affleck’s solo Batman film? Perhaps. We’ll have to wait and see.
