Ever since Sony announced an Uncharted film, fans have wanted actor Nathan Fillion to play the role of the titular hero, Nathan Drake. Not only does Fillion have the look but he has the acting chops to pull off both the humour and action parts too.
Of course, in July 2018, director Allan Ungar’s fan-made 15-minute short film, starring Fillion as Drake, proved that he was the man for the job. Unfortunately, Sony decided to go with a younger Nathan Drake and cast Spider-Man actor Tom Holland as the character instead.
Now a new deepfake video of Fillion as Drake has surfaced online, and fans are campaigning again for the studio to correct their decision.
The deepfake tech replaces Nathan Drake’s face with that of the Fillion’s. The result, of course, is equally awesome and unsettling. The 15-minute clip is set in the Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End game, and again proves why the Firefly actor deserves the job.
The official Uncharted film has faced its fair share of challenges, going through six different directors ever since it was announced back in 2008. Tom Holland has signed on as a younger version of Nathan Drake, with Mark Wahlberg as his ally and mentor, Sully. The film is currently planned for a 16th of July 2021 release.
Do you agree that Fillion would make the perfect Nathan Drake or is there someone else you would like to see in the role?
