Before Henry Cavill in Man of Steel and before Tom Welling in Smallville, back in the ’90s, Dean Cain was Superman in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. The show was considered a success by many fans, but, unfortunately, ended suddenly on a cliff hanger back in 1997. Now, the film’s leading man has a few ideas on how to get the heroes back on screen again.
Actor Dean Cain recently appeared on The Talk and discussed his interest in reprising the role again. Although there were initial plans to do a 5th season of the show, Lois Lane actress Teri Hatcher had difficulties during her pregnancy at the time that resulted in the show being cancelled early.
“We ended in a really weird spot, so we don’t know what’s going on,” said Cain. “I mean there was a baby delivered to our doorstop, and the show’s over. It’s like, ‘What happened?’ I wrote episodes of the show, and we never got to finish it. You want to have an ending of some sort. So we’ve talked about what it might be and where it might go.”
Of course, Dean Cain believes there is still hope for a new show based on the characters from Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Some of his new ideas include Clark and Lois raising children and struggling with parenthood.
“Because I write, I’ve actually been writing possibly an idea for it,” Cain said. “I want them still together, they’ve got kids. Do they have babies now? How do they work that out? Do they have superpowers? I think they should. And all the things you can teach them about using their superpowers and the mistakes they could make, because gosh knows we all make mistakes especially as young adults. I think it would be fun to explore. So we’ll see what happens.”
Of course, you have to wonder how Dean Cain’s Superman would fair in today’s world. With Superman becoming more dark and gritty over the years, is there a place for a Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman reboot?
I don’t know.
